The Giver Quartet
The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger, Son
Author: Lois Lowry
Extreme Book Nerd Challenge Categories: The Giver (I didn’t read this one this year, but could fit many categories), Gathering Blue (a book with a color in it), Messenger (a book with an illness in it), Son (a book with a relation in the title)
It is crazy that I never read The Giver until last year. I remember so many of my friends reading it in middle school and high school, but didn’t read it until after I saw the movie. But let me tell you I loved it and the other books in The Giver Quartet. After reading Life After Theft I knew I needed to read something that I would really enjoy. So I started Gathering Blue. It is really interesting because it is a completely different story. Well not completely. It is very similar but happening in a different community. It is a story of an oppressing community and the story of how members of these communities rise up and learn to think for themselves.
From the first book to the last many stories are woven together in a beautiful work of art. The metaphor throughout the stories is fascinating. and one of my favorite quotes from the last book is, “Evil can do anything…for a price.” Will evil prevail in the end? You will have to read to find out.
Have you read The Giver or the rest of the quartet? What did you think?
Love the books. Especially the harry potter series and Lois Lowery The giver.
