I love a lot of young adult fiction, but I was a little bit mixed on Graceling. Katsa lives in a world where individuals can be graced with a special talent. Her talent is killing. She has been forced to do her uncle’s bidding. She has had enough and wants to make her own way in the world. This book explores her journey to be her own person and overthrow adversaries.
Along the way she develops a love interest. This is where I get a little disappointed in the book. Katsa decides she doesn’t need anyone to survive so why not just have a lover. I guess I am opposed to this and not everyone is. But as a teenage girl in a story for teenage girls it seems a little much for me. From the reviews of the other books in the series they seemed to go more in this direction, so I decided to pass on them.
All in all if you are looking for adventure and a little bit of romance this might be the read for you!
Note: I listened to this book on Audible. This was such a fun audiobook! There were different readers for each person, music, and sound effects. I would definitely recommend the audiobook version. Some audio books are hard to listen due to the narration, but this one was fun!
