Spring Tea Towel Upcycle
Is it spring yet? I hope that you are getting a little bit of sunshine around your home. But if there isn’t quite enough sunshine yet, I’ve got a great idea to brighten up your home right now. I have found these super cute tea towels at IKEA and they are quick and easy to upcycle for spring.
Maybe it is just me. Maybe it isn’t, but I love when I find something awesome that only costs a dollar. That is the story with these amazing towels from IKEA. They work perfect for so many things, but today I wanted to pretty one up to give my house a little spring cheer.
What you will need for this easy upcycle:
- IKEA towel
- Ruffle Ribbon (or any kind of ribbon)
- sewing machine with thread
- rubber stamp
- ink pad
I love these adorable towels from IKEA (they are only about a dollar!!! SCORE!!!). So I grabbed this adorable ruffle ribbon from Pick Your Plum.
To get started iron the towel. I think sewing goes so much smoother when the fabric is ironed. Then measure the ribbon to fit down the whole red stripe on each side.
Pin the ribbon along the red stripe. At the start wrap the ribbon around to the back side of the towel and pin it on both sides so that it will be sewn to the back. Repeat on the other stripe.
Sew a straight stitch down the ribbon. I did mine on the top of the ruffle. Don’t forget to back stitch the ends. Repeat with the other stripe.
Add a rubber stamp in the middle near the end. I adore keys! I added an antique one to the bottom middle of the towel. Let the ink dry.
I love how bright and springy the towel turned out.
I grabbed some cute books, flowers and used the towel as a base to brighten up my entry way.
If you don’t like the stamped look add some felt flowers. They would be so pretty too. Or just leave it plain if you don’t feel like you need to embellish your towel.
The ruffle ribbon gives the towel some extra texture that gives the towel character.
Use these tea towels for place settings or as a mini table runner.
There are so many decorative uses for these upcycled spring tea towels.
What is your favorite part of spring?
