Tic Tac toe Printable Prop for Elf on the Shelf

It’s 10 p.m., and you just remembered the elf. Again. 🙈 We’ve all been there, friend! That’s why I love this Elf on the Shelf tic-tac-toe printable. It’s a cute idea that turns a classic game into a quick elf scene. Best of all, you can set it up in under five minutes.

What Is This Free Elf Printable?

This free printable gives your elf a brand-new game board for the holiday season. The board has a fun striped border with “Elf Tic Tac Toe” across the top. Inside the border, you’ll find the classic grid, ready to go. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite free printables this year. It also comes with five X’s and five O’s to cut out as game pieces.

You can set it out for the kids to play together. Or, you can pose your own elf with another toy so it looks like they played all night long. Either way, it adds a little Christmas magic without much work. You know, the best kind of magic! ✨

Why You’ll Love This Easy Elf Idea

First of all, this is such an easy idea for tired parents. You simply print it on regular printer paper, cut out the pieces, and you’re done. There’s no glue, no flour mess, and no midnight trip to the store. Honestly, it might look like I spent hours on it, but I did not. 😉

On top of that, it’s a great way to keep the fun going long after breakfast. Kids can play this easy game with siblings, friends, or family members all day. It also works as a great boredom buster on snow days and long winter breaks. As a result, one simple sheet gives you morning magic and afternoon play. That’s a win-win in my book!

How to Use Your Elf on the Shelf Tic Tac Toe Printable

Getting started takes just a few simple steps. First, download the printable by entering your name and email address in the dark green download box at the bottom of the post; you’ll receive an email with the digital file. Next, print it at home. Next, cut out the board and the X and O pieces. For extra durability, laminate everything or use cardstock. 🎄

Then, pick a spot for the scene. A kitchen table, a bookshelf, or the hearth all work well. After that, sit your elf on one side of the board. Place a stuffed animal, a doll, or action figures across from the elf as the opponent. Finally, arrange a few X’s and O’s on the board mid-game. That way, the kids wake up to a match in progress!

Don’t forget a little backstory, either. For example, leave a note that says, “Your turn! Can you beat me?” Kids love finishing the game for their elf. Besides, it gets them giggling before breakfast.

Who Goes First?

Here’s a fun tip for picking the first player. Let the youngest child go first, or have the elf “pick” a name from a hat. It keeps things fair and stops the morning arguments. Trust me, that matters first thing in the morning!

Fun Ways to Use This Printable

Need more fun ideas? Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Elf vs. Santa: Pose your elf against a Santa Claus ornament. Leave a note that says Santa always picks X.
  • Elf friends showdown: Got two elves? Let them battle it out for bragging rights.
  • New elf welcome: Use it on arrival day. A new elf can challenge the kids to a friendly match.
  • Classroom fun: Teachers can set it up with scout elves as one of their engaging activities at recess.
  • Christmas Eve finale: End the season with one last game before the elf heads home with this goodbye letter.

Variations to Try

Want to switch things up? Swap the paper X’s and O’s for candy canes and gumdrops. Mini marshmallows and chocolate chips work great too. However, the elf might eat the evidence! 🍬

You can also turn it into a tournament. Keep a scoreboard on the fridge all week. Each single night, the elf plays a new opponent in a new location. By Christmas Eve, crown a champion with a tiny paper crown. 👑

Another idea? Pair it with other Elf on the Shelf printables and printable games for a family game night. Pop some popcorn and let everyone take turns. It makes a sweet Christmas tradition the whole family will remember.

Absolutely! Teachers can use it in the classroom with their own elf. It makes a quick and easy center activity in December.
